“Iron Man 2” opens May 7, 2010. Is it too early to start getting on the love train for all things Iron?
The way I see it, if Wal-Mart can have their Christmas decorations for sale by July 4, we can touch base on Iron Man 10 months before it opens.
Entertainment Weekly’s is new cover story features the Iron Dude, and frankly, I’m a little concerned. While the cast seems top-notch, especially the bad guys (Sam Rockwell as Justin Hammer, Mickey Rourke as Whiplash), Iron Man 2 seems to be making some of the classic mistakes superhero sequels always make.
One bad guy isn’t enough – this time we need two. And a little romantic tension between Tony Stark and Gwyneth Paltrow’s Pepper Potts isn’t enough – now we need a love triangle with Scarlett Johannsen as “mysterious new assistant” Natasha. “Mysterious” can only mean one thing…she’s gonna be trouble! Yawn.
“Iron Man 2” is starting to sound a lot like “Spider-Man 3” – a cluttered mess with too many villains and too much drama between too many characters.
Oh well. Maybe I’m wrong and “IR2” will be one of those rare sequels that upstages the original.
And maybe I should stop typing because I’m really starting to sound like a monster geek.
