I really enjoyed watching this. Correct me if I am wrong, but it is about how Jesus died on the cross for us and we should never run from it. God always knows where we are and can never hide from him as he is everywhere. We need to give up our life plan and follow Gods plan for us. As God sent his only son, Jesus in the flesh to die on the cross for our sins so we can join God up in heaven. To get into heaven you must be perfect and the only one that is perfect is God himself. God knows all. God still knows where you are and knows what you are doing even if you do not obey him and will try to get your attention to follow him.
Wow, I love Doug and Jon because these guys really make me think. I rarely come here but now I'll start coming more that I've seen this. I really want to be closer to God and learn more! How do I do that? When I have time with him I hardly know what to do...what do I do?
Thanks Christine! The absolute BEST way to get closer to God is to read God's instruction manual for life (The Bible), talk with/listen to Him (pray) and spend time with His people (finding a great church). hey jw ive tried everything and i just cant believe. I go to church, ive read the bible, I adore theology, but belief somehow seems to escape me. I do believe in something greater than myself, and that it is important for people to believe in something beyond themselves, but I just cant find a christian god in my heart. My question is, do you find it necessary to truly accept christ as your savior according to christian doctrine, or do you also support other paths to the divine?
Hi Pearl. Thanks for your honesty and your comments. The short answer to your question is "YES", simply because Jesus Himself said "I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No one gets to the Father (Heaven) but through Me". (John 14:6) Here's the thing: Belief and faith is the gift of God, and we'll only find Him in our hearts and lives when we ask Him for forgiveness of sin, of running our lives our own way.
1 Peter 3:18 says "Christ died, once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God". Until you have received Christ as the sacrifice for your sins, you won't find God in your heart. Just prayed for you, that you'll find God's truth in your life. Thanks again for your questions!
but is faith the only way, thought I understand the teachings of jesus and the lessons in the bible, I am unable to believe in strictest interpretation of the divine. Can one find god in just in the practice of studying his word, and following his commandments, or must one truly believe specifically in Jesus Christ as a savior. If so i doubt my soul will ever be saved. Also i was wondering do you use the king james version, or do read the Good Book in its original hebrew?
Pearl, here's what God's Word says in Romans Chapter 3: "No one will be declared righteous (saved) in His sight by observing the law (God's commandments). It is through (His commandments) we become conscious of sin...this righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ..." In other words, it's impossible to be "saved" by anything WE do, because it's impossible for any human to keep His commandments perfectly.
That's why the gift of Jesus is so awesome! When you submit yourself to Him and receive forgiveness through Jesus, God accepts you as one that has followed His commandments completely, because He now looks to JESUS, who was a sinless human being, in your place! Here is the definition of being saved, straight from Romans 10:9 - "If you confess with your mouth 'Jesus is Lord' and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, YOU WILL BE SAVED".
I use several different Bible translations when studying the Bible, as well as studying it in the original Hebrew and Greek languages.
Great question, Claire. First, the Bible says in Romans 10:9, that "if you confess with your mouth that 'Jesus is Lord', and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead three days later, you will be saved". But it's more than just AGREEING with that truth...it's BELIEVING it. 2 Corinthians 13:5 says to "Examine yourself to see whether you are in the faith".
If you have really received the gift of God of being rescued from sin and hell, you'll start seeing changes in your life. You'll hate the stuff God hates (sin) and love what He loves (putting others first, humility, kindness, etc.) There's a great kind of "faith checklist" in the Bible right here: http://bit.ly/5ipA62 (Galatians 5:22-23).
If you are growing in and care about those things, that is good evidence you are "saved". I would encourage you to watch one of our "God" videos if you get the chance, they also talk some about this. Great question!
